Position Description

NAEYC is seeking a Deputy Chief Executive, Member Engagement, Brand Advancement and Professional Learning to join our executive team. The successful candidate must possess a demonstrated track record of creative and innovative successes along with the ability to effectively operationalize a vision. It is imperative that the individual is a strong and effective leader and manager of people who knows and understands how to motivate individuals and teams for collaborative success.

In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate his/her ability to be a systems thinker bringing multiple business lines together to create a multifaceted and dynamic operation that will result in increased member recruitment, retention and engagement, exceptional content and professional learning, product sales, strategic marketing and communications and national and international brand recognition. This includes envisioning and overseeing the implementation of new and emerging business models for content strategy and development.

The following functional areas operate within the Member Engagement, Brand Advancement & Professional Learning division-marketing, creative services, membership, customer care center, meetings and conferences, exhibit sales, advertising, corporate strategic alliances, content strategy and development, publishing, digital services, and professional learning.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Key Objectives

  • Develop a vision and oversee implementation plan for membership, recruitment, retention and engagement.
  • Develop a vision and oversee implementation of the customer care center as an integrated, effective and high-performing operation.
  • In concert with CEO and team members establish aggressive and achievable benchmarks to measure progress in each of the business lines by conducting ongoing data analysis to understand market opportunities and sales trends of major NAEYC products/services.
  • Ensures mission-focused, cost-effective day-to-day operations through staff supervision, fiscal management (budget development and management and contract management), planning and execution.
  • Drive organizational alignment across independent business lines.
  • Provide oversight and guidance for an aligned and cohesive learning (knowledge) approach that provides tangible value for members via various platforms (including online, in-person, multimedia programs and content at Annual Conference and Professional Learning Institute).
  • Develop strategic direction and oversee all marketing and communications functions including earned media, press relationships, and product/service promotion and positioning work. This includes overseeing the strategy for revising and expanding product sales.
  • Oversee and provide strategic guidance to conferences and events teams with the goal of maximizing participation and effective participatory engagement and ensuring a valuable membership-oriented experience.
  • Provide strategic direction and implementation oversight to all NAEYC brand advancement activities including visual images, logo/mark, collateral material design and publications. Also develop and implement brand standards across NAEYC brands.
  • Serve as a member of NAEYC's executive team.
  • Oversee and provide strategic guidance to the corporate strategic alliances team, ensuring innovative approaches to sponsorships are present, group membership is effective and cause-related marketing campaigns are explored. This work also includes overseeing a strong and strategic sales operation for advertising and exhibit space.
  • Enhance the performance and positioning of the NAEYC brand across markets and external constituencies, including educating and communicating with peers, colleagues and partners on the NAEYC brand
  • Provide leadership and direction in ongoing analytics regarding the NAEYC value proposition for current members, potential members, key constituents and customers.
  • Provide leadership and vision to develop and deploy the approach and direction of how content is created, delivered (via multiple platforms) and sold.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of management experience
  • Demonstrates experience in managing complex enterprises
  • Previous related national association experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrates experience in understanding membership initiatives, publishing and all facets of brand advancement
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills
  • Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external constituencies, including an ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Possesses business acumen and financial savvy, including excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills utilized to drive continuous quality improvement in operations and maintains proven track record of success in facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization.
  • Entrepreneurial team player that can multitask.
  • Collaborative and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives. 
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, NAEYC's National Governing Board and staff. 
  • This position requires occasional travel.
